Although less well known than the SS100, the 11.50 is an under the radar large capacity Brough Superior which still displays the legendary luxurious details of the Rolls Royce of motorcycles. George Brough fitted these machines with the J.A.P. 1096 cc side valve motor to acquire police contracts for his motorcycles. These are fascinating machines and you can read more about them in this article Brough Superior 11.50. This particular example comes with a wonderful known history, having started life as a Sheffield Police sidecar outfit and later provided family transport for a friend of George Brough who also worked for the factory. The machine was restored by Mr Phizacklea who restores motorcycles for the National Motorcycle Museum and he excelled himself with this machine. There is very little information about these machines, but this article Brough 11.50 sidecar outfit at the National Motorcycle Museum shines a little more light on them.

Brough Superior 11.50 history

This Brough 11.50 history is well documented, it stayed with Sheffield police for many years until it re-emerged in the 1950s, having been bought by a friend of George Brough who also worked for him. They removed the sidecar, after many years of use with the chair and kept the motorcycle in excellent condition. It was used as transport for his family and proved to be a reliable form of transport for them all. The motorcycle was sold on again after many years and was still very well preserved and in original condition. It is extremely rare to find any Brough with so many original components. The engine and chassis numbers are the ones it left the factory with in 1937 and the restoration is of highest possible standard. Most restored Brough Superior motorcycles today are made up from parts purloined from many other motorcycles. This one retains the original hand beaten fuel tank, primary cases, Lycett saddles, Monarch forks and each original component was painstakingly restored. Very few Brough Superiors retain this level of authenticity and originality. Opportunities to own such an authentic, iconic piece of automotive history rarely present themselves many times in any person’s lifetime. We have met the owner who worked for George Brough and have recent photos of him with the motorcycle at the Stafford Classic Motorcycle Show in October 2022 where it won an award.
