We know where the ones which may be for sale are and we also know their history and provenance. It is now becoming extremely difficult to find “full house” examples, as you can read in our article investment grade 1974 Ducati 750SS green frame. A “full house” example means one that has all of the unique parts present which are only found on the green frame and are investment grade. The future of these 1974 Ducati 750SS will mean compromise regarding sourcing them with all of these impossible to find components and buyers will soon have to accept examples with replica parts. However, we are in the fine position of having access to some of the last of the best “full house” investment grade examples worldwide. It is extremely difficult to find a “full house” investment grade 1974 Ducati 750SS for sale and we are in the best position to supply such a rare Italian classic motorcycle. We work direct with collectors whose motorcycles are not on the open market and who allow us to complete a full due diligence process to prove that their example is genuine. All of our motorcycle come with a full due diligence report and if we are asked to work on them, then we also supply a full workshop report with detailed photos and a written report of all work done to your machine.

    Unrestored 1974 Ducati 750SS

We do know of one unrestored 1974 Ducati 750SS for sale which is a genuine, investment grade example with all due diligence passed. This is a “full house” example with original bodywork and original paint which has aged, like all of the original, unrestored examples. Due to age the original bodywork and paint need to be retired or they will completely fail, as the fibreglass will very rapidly start to fail which will devalue  the machine. The best way to preserve the excellent value this machine offers is to now replace all of the original bodywork with replica items and to repaint the new bodywork correctly. Our work on the Amelia Island green frame includes perfectly replicating the patina of the original paintwork onto the replica bodywork, including factory runs in the paint, using stable modern 2K paints. This presents the motorcycle with the exact patina of the original paintwork as a snap shot in time at the moment the original bodywork was retired and conserved. This type of approach completely preserves the original bodywork and paint before it degrades so badly that it cannot be preserved any longer and the fibreglass has no integrity any more. It is always up to the buyer how far they go with any investment grade green frame they purchase through The Motorcycle Broker. Preservation and conservation of these beautiful machines is now critical as the aging process will be really taking its toll on them. There are very few classic motorcycle investments like a 1974 Ducati 750SS, prices for such examples have been rising fiercely for the last twelve years and they offer much more headroom for the future. You can understand the investment potential in this article The Classic Cars That Will Increase in Value are Classic Motorcycles so you can see how they compare to the equivalent classic car in value.

    Restored 1974 Ducati 750SS

We have access to a very beautifully restored 1974 Ducati 750SS green frame for sale which is a full house example and very well put together. There are issues around green frame paint and colours when they have been repainted, as making the original colours with modern paints is almost impossible. Very few have really achieved this, so any restored green frame may well need the frame, bodywork and forks repainting to really make them right now, or you could leave it and repaint it correctly in years to come when the value increases. Now is certainly the time to buy a full house investment grade Ducati green frame, as they are certainly never going to be cheaper. There are also very few “full house” examples left to buy in the world now, as so many have been snapped up by very strong investors who do not want to sell at any price, so future examples will need to be a compromise with replica parts or with parts missing. Sourcing high quality replica parts is really costly as so many are unique parts only made for the green frame and no other motorcycles. Now really is the time to snap up any remaining full house, investment grade 1974 Ducati 750SS. Once you have sourced your green frame, there will be a lot of work to do, unless you just want it for static display only.

Ducati green frames need a lot of work

Ducati green frames need a lot of work, usually irrespective of who did the restoration, not least because the first 200 examples were built with the camshafts drilled in the wrong place. These were all hand made as they only created 401 examples and each motor had to be built by hand as it was the only Ducati round case motor with Desmodromic valve operation. This did not just involve fitting ready made different cylinder heads, it meant each cylinder head had to be created from scratch by Ducati. Drilling was often not very accurate and it is not unknown for the factory to have drilled straight through oil ways and into rocker pin housings and passing the problem onto the new owner. On the first 200 motors the camshafts being incorrectly drilled caused the valve timing to be inaccurate by up to 16 degrees and this needs to be rectified, unless the machine is not to be ridden or started. Not riding or starting these motors really does not do them much good, they are far happier under load and being ridden. You can see what twenty five years of not riding did to the Amelia Island green frame if you watch the videos of our work to it on our Youtube channel here. The old breaks down into varnish and really clogs up the oil ways. It is better to ride them 500 or 1,000 miles a year and just maintain them, which is not difficult or detrimental to the value of the motorcycle. In fact over time purely static motorcycles will become of more value if the owner has properly recommissioned the machine, which becomes more expensive the longer it’s left. There is also this question of the correct colours on restored motorcycles and saving the original bodywork and paint by using replica bodywork on an unrestored example. These are great iconic classic motorcycles which are destined to cost a lot more than they do today, so now is the time to buy a full house, investment grade 1974 Ducati 750SS green frame while you can still get one.

    Perfect classic motorcycle investment

The perfect classic motorcycle investment so far has been the 1974 Ducati 750SS green frame, it has increased in value many hundred percent since 2011 and has a lot further to go. These beautiful Ducatis are recognised as the pinnacle of classic motorcycle investment equal to the Brough Superior SS100 and only behind certain racing motorcycles, Britten and Crockers. They are absolutely incredible to ride today and the bevel drive Desmodromic valved motor harks back to an era which can never be repeated. It really was one of the first ever homologation specials and was as close to a racing motorcycle registered for the road. These beautiful, hand made Italian classic motorcycles really are straddling engineering and art with their quirky colours, curvaceous styling and aggression derived from the race circuit. We can offer a straight trade sale for any of the motorcycles we can offer without guarantee and ready for road registration. We can then be commissioned to do the work on your motorcycle at an hourly rate, deciding how much of the job you want us to do and how much you want to do yourself. We also offer a fixed capped price for us to buy the motorcycle on your behalf, import it, register it for the road and do all agreed work to bring it up to spec with a one year unlimited mileage warranty. The choice is yours. Whatever you decide, The Motorcycle Broker can guarantee you a full house, investment grade 1974 Ducati 750SS green frame in either restored or unrestored condition at a realistic price and with a full due diligence report.
